Police off-duty golf outing probe
Excerpts from an article by Chuck Goudie - ABC7 Chicago
July 25, 2003 — Some off-duty police officers are under investigation for possible official misconduct after the ABC7 I-team found them standing guard at a golf outing sponsored by a suburban strip club. The outing featured dozens of exotic dancers. It was intended to be a very private outing at a normally public golf course.
According to those in attendance, some of the 20-man security force, outfitted in yellow shirts, were off-duty policeman...the guards were on patrol in golf carts, keeping watch over golfers who had paid nearly 400-dollars each to play in the event.
The day began with the auctioning of 60 exotic dancers from Chicago, Florida and Las Vegas...some of the women said to have been bought for the day for more than a thousand dollars according to witnesses, but this was no charity event.
On Monday when Chopper 7 arrived to videotape the festivities, some of the guests became camera shy...
Friday night in a statement, an official from the Cook County Forest Preserve Police district said there is an "internal affairs investigation" underway, after they received information that "one or more of the district's police officers, while off-duty, may have been working security at an event hosted by a 'disreputable' company."
