Mar 5, 2003  — A total of 10 Denver police command officers are now under internal investigation for apparent discrepancies between their police work and off-duty police records, according to Denver Police Chief Gerry Whitman.

Those 10 investigations began after a NEWS4 investigation of three top police commanders collecting a second paycheck while on the job with the city.

Last month, a NEWS4 probe reported three top command officers in the Crimes Against Persons Bureau were regularly working a lucrative secondary job in the middle of the afternoon. These officers were allegedly routinely leaving work in the middle of their shifts to earn extra money directing traffic.

On dozens of days, they never used accrued comp time to cover their time away from work.

Another lieutenant, Lt. Jon Priest, was coming to work early and leaving early to get to the crossing guard job. An internal affairs questionnaire was passed out to officers who work with the three top commanders..
